Beaner’s Coffee Cleans Up Name

After 12 years of serving up great coffee under the name Beaner’s Coffee, This Michigan based company has decided to change its name to Biggby Coffee.  The term “beaner” has been a term the founders do not like – this is the reason for the name change.

Beaners Coffee

14 Beaner’s Coffee shops can be found throughout southeast Michigan, with 79 others across the United States.  The names change is expected to cost an estimated 1 million dollars.

The term “beaner” is considered by some as a racist Hispanic term.  While others use it to refer to drugs, with the companies continued expanding nationwide more and more comments have been made regarding the name.

BEANER’S COFFEE was founded in East Lansing, MI in 1995 by Bob Fish and Mary Roszel, when, on March 15, 1995, they first opened the doors to their new coffee shop, BEANER’S. The store quickly became the premiere gourmet coffee shop in the East Lansing area, standing apart from competitors by serving drinks of the highest quality quickly and efficiently in a atmosphere that customers found instantly inviting. These three qualities have remained central to the BEANER’S operating philosophy and have driven the success of BEANER’S in the years since.
