Woodhaven Michigan Another Mall Planned

The Wayne Country Commission approved plans to convert a contaminated downriver Michigan site into a $27-million, 130,000 square-foot shopping mall. The cost to clean up this site near the Allen and West Road intersection is roughly $2.5 million.
The Woodhaven Towne Center home contains soil contaminated with volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, polychlorinated biphenyls and metal.
Rami Rakhoury, the developer, said the plan is to start the clean up portion of the project in February 2008, with the first phase of building the project to open in the fall of 2008. Phase two would then be completed in the spring of 2009. The plans have still not been approved for the 7-acre site, but Rakhoury expects to get approval after the first of the year.
The Woodhaven Towne Center shopping mall is projected to create 100 construction jobs as well as 300 permanent jobs.
The Downriver Michigan area is home to some big name companies like Home Depot, Super Wal-Mart, Super Target, Meijer’s and Lowe’s, this will be very appealing to smaller Michigan businesses when considering making the Woodhaven Towne Center Mall their home.
Downriver Michigan is one of Michigan areas that are booming against the odds, while other developments in Michigan seem to be falling apart due to hard economic times. Lowe’s has just opened a new Woodhaven store on West road in front of Ford Motor Co’s Woodhaven Stamping Plant.
