Michigan Census Bureau Hiring for 2010 Count
By Tim Somers on Jan 18, 2008 in General
15,000 temporary workers will be needed in Michigan for the U.S. Census Bureau 2010 survey. The bureau opened a Regional Census Center in Detroit Michigan on Thursday, January 17, 2008. The center will require around 160 full-time workers over the next year.
Michigan Census offices will be in the 15 congressional districts throughout the state being in October of 2009, with at least 1,000 workers in each office.
1980 marked the last time a regional census office was in Detroit Michigan, in 1990 the office was in Southfield and in Oak Park in 2000.

Does anyone else wonder if the Census numbers are really valid, You have to ponder if these people are temps and are only making min. wage that they just don’t care and may mark down fake numbers to meet a quota?

I worked the 2000 census in Western Michigan. I have never worked with a greater bunch of people. Everyone seemed to do the job to the best of their ability and those who didn’t show a keen interest simply were not used again. There is close scrutiny of the work completed by group leaders. I worked that area for a little over a year from fall of 1998 to spring of 2000. I find that pay has little to do with the integrity of worker. A good worker can be spotted immediately by their interests and their questions. A good worker is interested in the job at hand. Seems to me they don’t ponder much on the intent and capabilities of others.

Hey Kime,
Awesome info - I often wondered about the integrity of the workers too - nice to put my mind at rest, with information first hand from someone like yourself, thanks for your post!!

I am enquiring about a position with the Census Bureau. I live near downtown Detroit and the Grosse Pointe neighborhoods. I have previous experience from the 2000 census and am hoping to partake in 2010 as well. I have managerial and supervisory skills beyond the field experience from last time. Where can I apply in this area? Thank you,
Brenda

I am scheduled to take the test to work for the census bureau for 2010 and was wondering if anyone knew what the hourly pay would be around? I am looking for the office positions and was told that would be a really good possibility with my experience. Anyone out there know….

In January someone from the Census bureau called me and stated I would be called back in February. I know the month isn’t over yet, but I do wonder when the training will begin in Escanaba in Michigans Upper Peninsula.
