Kit Converts Gas Vehicles to E85

Metropolitan Alternative Energy Inc., a Detroit Michigan based company, is marketing kits that change conventional gasoline vehicles to be compatible with E85. With only 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent ethanol, the fuel blend known as E85 offers superior performance characteristics, ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline; it is a completely renewable, domestic, environmentally friendly fuel that enhances the nation’s economy and energy independence.

Assortments of converters are available for just about every type of motor vehicle, from motorcycles to four, six and eight-cylinder cars and trucks to boats to RVs. Prices start at $269 and go as high as $799.
It only takes about an hour to install the converters, some vehicles may take longer. The company was founded eight months ago and has been very successful thus far.

Metropolitan Alternative Energy is owned by Lena Thompson and Sybil Hill. Thompson is a 20-year automotive industry veteran on the service side, while Hill has a background in IT and solar, wind and geothermal industry. The two met through Craigslist.
Thompson said she researched a variety of conversion kits to resell before selecting kits from Idaho-based Fuel Flex International. She said customers haven’t reported problems with corrosion in fuel lines from using E85. “Really all it does is adjust the fuel trim so you can run a richer mixture,” Thompson said.
