The 2007 Woodward Dream Cruise had a gross economic impact of over $64 Million, with a net impact of $21 to $32 Million on Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties – based on a study the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau hired Sportsimpacts.com to conduct.
The Dream Cruise is one of the biggest grossing events with a greater economic impact than the 2005 Major League Baseball All-Start Game held here in Detroit. Other studies conducted by the Bureau include the 2004 Ryder Cup which brought in $62 Million, and the 2006 Super Bowl at $260 Million.
The report also included detail demographics; nearly 1.7 million people attended the 2007 Woodward Dream Cruise, of those a quarter was from outside Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. 68 percent of the attendees were spectators, with half of them in the 44 to 64 age group.
The largest corporate sponsors included Chrysler LLC, Detroit Muscle, Dodge, Easton Corp., Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp and Mopar.
I have yet to attend a Woodward Dream Cruise, I do like the old cars but hugh crowds and traffic keep me away.
