Michigan Gas Prices Dropping

Over the past couple of days I’ve noticed gas prices here in the downriver Michigan   area have dropped under $4.00 per gallon – the lowest price I noticed was $3.79 per gallon.  Yes the high gas prices are a concern and have impacted my family and business financially, but boy am I sick of hearing people complain about it.  Every were I turn someone is taking about gas and the impact on our Michigan economy.

The latest issue of Crain’s Detroit Business magazine is peppered with gas price crisis articles.  The front page headline is “Gas Prices Fuel Frustration Across Sectors” I found out of the 28 or so headlines within this issue, 8 of them had some type of reference to Fuel.  That is approximately 30 percent of the articles in the current issue focused on the topic of gas prices.

Over all the articles in Crain’s talked about how the impact of fuel is affecting businesses large and small.  Non profits like the Salvation Army are really being hit hard, but are finding ways to cushion the blow financially.  The Salvation Army claims their fuel costs are up almost 50% over last year. They are starting to sell things to others that they can’t sell themselves to make up for the high gas prices.  Things like cardboard, plastics, metal, old computer parts, books and linens can not be sold in their stores, so they are selling these items to salvage organizations instead of throwing them out as they normally have done in the past years.

I am glad to see these items being put to use and not making it to our landfills, but I wonder why it took high gas prices for someone to figure this out.
