Solar Powered Light Pole Program

Thomas A. Wither, a former manufacturer’s rep and stockbroker is on a mission to convert power sucking street lights to solar power one light pole at a time.  Wither created the National Adopt-a-Watt Program (www.adoptawatt.com).

Modeled after the popular “Adopt A Highway” program, funds are collected from businesses, organizations and individuals.  Money collected is used to purchase a solar power street light and the donor’s name and logo are printed on a plaque and attached to the street light pole.

Cities like Royal Oak, Kalamazoo and the Battle Creek International Airport are considering jumping on board this trend.  Ann Arbor Michigan is leading the way in the solar powered revolution here in Michigan and will surely be on board.

The price of the poles will depend on how big of a crowd will see the plaque. “We’re looking at starting at $5,000 a year,” Wither said.

Wither said this could easily be a $6 billion to $7 billion a year in revenue program and plans to concentrate on prying money away from print media advertising.  Many companies make statements in print that they are “Goin’ Green” but buying a solar powered street light will make a hugh statement showing that your company is actually taking action in the ever popular eco-friendly trend.
