Three Downriver Michigan communities in conjunction with the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge are considering installing slips for short stays. The move will bring revenue to local businesses, boaters will be able to stop then shop said one official.

Trenton Michigan is expected to firm up the design for 31 slips at Meyer Elias Park this summer having them installed and ready for the 2009 boating season. A $584,000 U.S. Fish and Wildlife grant and $193,000 in DDA money will pay for them for the slips.
The Wyandotte City Council voted to match a $20,000 state Department of Natural Resources grant to pay for a transient-dock study. The first 20 slips in the approximately $1-million project would be set by Bishop Park, directly behind the city’s main commercial strip. The only docks Wyandotte has is for customers of local eateries Bob’s Boathouse and Portofino.
42 docks are being considered by the Grosse Ile Township Recreation Commission at the south end of the marina at Water’s Edge, the island’s public recreation center.
Shuttle buses from the transient docks to the township’s business district would be a great value added service to visiting boaters. Now, boaters visiting the island may use two patron transient docks at Sharkey’s, or the Water’s Edge eatery, or call ahead to the township marina to inquire about temporary vacancies among the 55 rented slips.
