Michigan Businesses Can Increase Profitability

If your Michigan Business is just staring out or under a year old, new clients are a necessity to building profitability. For those of you that have been in business for over two years and are still not making the kind of money you would like, new clients is not always the answer. Not enough revenue, low or inadequate profit margins, a shortage of customers and lack of time are most often the problem.
First off you should look at your gross profit margins. Most industries have associations that offer statistics that cover various stats of like businesses. This will give you important data to see how your business stakes up in your industry. You may find that you are not charging enough or your cost of goods is too high. Make adjustments based on what others in your field are doing – you may need to find a new supplier that can provide your goods at a lower cost. Do not give up quality for price though – increasing your selling price may just bring your margins up, in turn bring your profitability up to the level you desire.
Not having enough customers will defiantly hinder your profitability. Make sure you have a marketing plan in place, if you don’t have one – get one fast! Focus on your best and most profitable product or service and do target marketing to customers that want and need what your business has to offer.
Time will also hold back your profitability. If you are leaving money on the table because you simply can’t follow up with current customers let alone new prospects, you need to take action quickly. You should consider hiring an employee to pick up the slack, but you must be aware that an employee will reduce your profitability even more. Make sure you will increase your business by adding staff. Out sourcing may be an option instead of hiring someone.
If you review these simple areas of your business, and take action swiftly you will increase your Michigan businesses profitability in no time.
