34rd Annual Trenton Mid-Summer Festival

Be a tourist in your own town!  Visit the 34rd Annual Trenton Mid-Summer Festival, scheduled for July 10, 11 and 12.   It is held in downtown Trenton on Jefferson between Maple and Harrison.  There will be plenty of attractions to keep you entertained all weekend, making the festival a must addition to your stay-at-home travel itinerary.  

In addition to the overall tourist event, this year’s festival is again “Going Green!”  In an effort to showcase the many environmentally friendly opportunities that exist in our area, the festival  com­mittee is dedicating an entire festival block to environmentally friendly information and family fun.  Whether it be sharing the many outdoor recreation opportunities and wonderful natural resources that exist right in our own backyard or showcasing environmentally friendly businesses and organizations which are providing healthy alternatives to preserve and protect our environment, this year’s festival will have lots of great ideas of how to “Go Green” downriver.  Be sure to recycle while you’re here compliments of the Trenton Business Association, Henry Ford Health, Renewals By Anderson & DTE!  The featured retro rock stylings of headliners Spirit of 76 & Square Pegz will compliment the “groovy” feel of this annual event. It’s a great time to take a “Staycation” this summer and be a Tourist in your own town!

The Festival attracts over 100,000 visitors each year with top name entertainment, over 150 artists and craftsmen, a children’s playmarket, and a popular array of sporting tournaments including co-ed volleyball.  Check out Kulick Enterprises solar display at West & W. Jefferson.  Thanks to Kulick Enterprises, the entire main stage will be powered by the sun!  

There is a lot for kids to do at the Trenton Mid-Summer Festival.  Just locate the clock tower at W. Jefferson and West and let the fun begin!  In keeping with the “Green Theme”, the New Herald Newspapers Children’s Playmarket opens on Friday where kids can use their imagination and create an array of hands-on arts and crafts from recycled products.  Be on the lookout for Janie Annie clown and Max the Moose, who will delight children of all ages.  Games Stops- Guitar Hero contest that pits families against families will be sure to Retro Rock the town.  The Diaper Derby and Toddler Trot will be held on Saturday at noon near the clock tower for crawlers through age 4.

Stop by the Trenton Fire Department and become a Junior Firefighter by trying your hand at spraying a real firehouse to see if you can hit the target!  The Trenton Police Department will offer crime prevention information for the public and a free bike raffle for children.  Trenton’s finest will also be taking photo’s of children who want to dress in a police uniform and check out a police car with a hemi!  Trenton school clubs and local service organizations will offer games of chance, face painting, fishing pond and super soaker games to name a few.   Get your free ‘green’ balloons compliments of News Herald News Papers.  

As a waterfront community, Trenton is blessed with outstanding natural resources which lend themselves to offer incredible outdoor recreation opportunities.   Make it a point to visit the International Wildlife Refuge and Humbug Marsh, located at the south end of Trenton, and learn about this valuable natural resources and plans for the future.  A short  Miller Beverages shuttle bus ride will transport you there and back.  Times of the tours will be announced.  In addition to the tour of the marsh, Riverside Kayak will be on hand, providing kayaking demonstrations at nearby Elizabeth Park.  Times to be announced.  

Henry Ford Hospital Wyandotte & Josephine Ford Cancer Center Downriver will again host the Refreshment Intersection at West Jefferson and Elm for some shady relief by the food stations.

In true award winning style, visitors will be able to enjoy a great line up of evening entertainment sure to please all tastes in various locations throughout the event.

Friday July 11 – Mayor’s Breakfast 8am under the big top,. Get your tickets early at City Hall it’s always a sell out! WOW Rockin Retro Entertainment all afternoon and into the night featuring headliner Spirit of 76.

Saturday July 12

Strolling-Janie Annie; 11am-Max the Moose-Clock Tower; Guitar Hero contest 5:30-7:30pm. WOW Rockin Retro Entertainment  all afternoon and into the night, featuring headliner Square Pegz.

Sunday July 13

Strolling Nancy Hartlett & Janie Annie in the morning, 1pm-Catch Lori Adams (Tiger baseball own national anthem singer) and WOW Rockin Retro Entertainment  tunes up until 4pm.

Shuttle service is available at the Woodhaven K-Mart, Kennedy Recreation Center and Trenton High School. Shuttles run continuously during festival hours and are handicap and stroller accessible.  

The Co-ed Volleyball Tournaments will be held Saturday and Sunday at Elizabeth Park. Al application forms are available on the festival web site.

Over 150 artists and crafters will be in attendance. Visitors can enjoy a variety of unique woodworking, clothing jewelry, hand woven rugs and many specialty items.  Of course the food will also be spectacular this year! Food vendors will offer everything from hot dogs, fondue, hamburgers, stuffed pizza, strudel, ice cream, sno cones, lemonade, elephant ears and much more.
