Trenton, Michigan- 33rd District Court Judge Edward J. Nykiel recently announced that he will seek re-election to his position. The court serves the cities of Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Rockwood, Trenton and Woodhaven and the townships of Brownstown and Grosse Ile.

“It is with a great sense of commitment and an even greater sense of honor that I seek to continue to serve the people of the 33rd District. I am confident that my many years of experience, strong work ethic and community involvement will be well regarded by the voters as I undertake this journey,” Nykiel said.

Judge Nykiel is currently serving as Chief Judge Pro-Tem and Presiding Judge of the Sobriety Court Program. An attorney for 22 years, Nykiel also served as 33rd District Court Administrator from 1985 to 1998.

Judge Nykiel works with his fellow judges and the court administrator to efficiently

and economically operate the court. In 2009, the docket calendar was revised to ensure prompt adjudication of cases at a lower cost, while protecting due process rights. This year, the overall budgeted expenditures were reduced by more than $150,000 (5.7%).

In 2007 he teamed with judges, staff, and community stakeholders to develop and implement a Sobriety Court Program utilizing existing resources and available grants. Repeat offenders with an underlying drug and/or alcohol dependency who are committed to breaking the bonds of addiction may be admitted to this program in lieu of serving jail time. Participants must obtain employment and are monitored closely through frequent chemical testing and face-to-face meetings with the probation officer and presiding judge. Each successful participant in the program (the first five participants graduated in March 2010) represents a savings to the community in the form of reduced jail costs while yielding a productive, sober member of society.

Judge Nykiel literally brings his courtroom to local schools with his participation in the Court to School Program. Middle and High School students are able to observe offenders being sentenced “on the record” in their school. An interactive question and answer period follows the proceedings so that students can learn about, and make relevant, what they observe.

Other improvements to the court operation that Judge Nykiel helped to implement over the past five years include:

§ a mediation program for community dispute resolution of civil and small claims cases

§ electronic writing of traffic tickets that are uploaded to the court’s computer system from the issuing officer’s car

§ an enhanced website that allows citizens to pay traffic tickets and look up cases on-line

§ expansion of the jail alternative community work program

§ renovations to the courthouse that include enhancements to the security surveillance systems.

A lifelong resident of the 33rd Judicial District, Nykiel was born and raised on Grosse Ile, lived in Trenton for 9 years, and currently makes his home on Grosse Ile with his wife Debbie and their two year old son. Nykiel attends St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton where he also serves as a lector. He is a member of the St. Joseph Athletic Boosters.

Judge Nykiel worked his way through college at the University of Michigan as a steel mill laborer and an auto plant assembly line worker. He earned his law degree at Detroit College of Law in the night school program. He is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, Downriver Bar Association and State Bar of Michigan. He is a Past President of the Michigan Court Administration Association. Nykiel also served as a volunteer attorney for the Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

Nykiel is active in civic and social organizations. As President of the Trenton Rotary Club in 1994, he co-founded the Trenton High School Interact Club, a community service organization for students. Nykiel served as an advisor to the Interact Club for two years. He is currently a third degree member and past Advocate of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Eppenbrock Council in Trenton. Nykiel also served the City of Trenton as an alternate Zoning Board of Appeals Commissioner for two years. He is a member of many community organizations.

Nykiel said that a vote for him is a vote for a judge who has lived up to his campaign pledge of being “tough on crime” but always “fair to all concerned”. A campaign fundraiser is set for May 26 at Fratello’s 5:30-7:30pm.

Anyone wishing to contact the campaign committee can do so by phone at (734) 775-5990, email at reelect-ed@nykiel.net or visit the campaign’s website and view all his endorsements at www.judgenykiel.com.

Southgate MI, March 30, 2010 – Barb and Philip Grobbel, owners of G.Philip’s Café-Catering-Cooking know the true meaning of hard work and passion. After leaving the corporate world about four years ago in the midst of the economical turbulence, they have made it through troubled times and are now expanding. “We knew that the Corporate World was still doing business holding on site trainings and meetings so we went after that business” said Barbara Grobbel. Barbara has always been in Hotel Sales proving outstanding success records in her field at properties across the Detroit Area, Orlando and right here in our back yard of Southgate. “I can create menus for you within your budget for your function just by having a 5 minute conversation with you” she brags as menu writing is one of her favorite things to do and her many clients have been quoted as having the best experiences working with Barbara. Barbara’s expertise in her field goes hand in hand with Executive Chef Phil’s background. Phil was trained by the finest of Chef’s. These Chefs would not even allow can openers in their kitchens. Executive Chef Phil has fine dining experience in Metro Detroit restaurants, numerous years at the Hotel Pontchartrain, and a 10 year career with a Hotel Investment Company, directing opening properties such as the St. John’s Golf & Conference Center.

“Starting off as what we called a Glorified Pretzel Stand” was not easy states Phil. “I went from carving extravagant ice carvings to selling pretzels.” Barb persistently told him it was only temporary and great things were coming their way. “Everyone loves our food” and “Every Bites Matters” is all she kept saying and she was right! They are happy to announce that they are now the proud Exclusive Caterers at the Robert J. Jones Counsel Knights of Columbus Hall on Outer Drive. “The place is amazing” said Barbara. “Two incredible banquet rooms complete with chandeliers, dance floors and beautiful built in bars. I can’t wait to wow the members with the variety of food we can cook for them and they will now have choices! We can host almost 600 people at a time!” said a very excited Barb “This is what we have been waiting for! “I knew God would pull thru for us!” Now G.Philip’s can continue serving its strong Corporate base delivering lunches such as Signature Sandwich Displays with Homemade Chips and Dip to High Class Weddings, Baby & Bridal Showers, Class Reunions, Family Reunions, Funeral Lunches and Conventions. “A special rate has already been set up at local hotels for our clients” states Barb. We are looking forward to hiring and creating many jobs on different skill levels as well with this growth spurt!

Barb and Phil also have their Son and Chef/Operations Manager Brandon Hatfield (also in his second year at the Art Institute of Novi) , Chef and Graduate of Schoolcraft College Benjamin Schultheis, Chef Daniel Finkenbine also a graduate at School Craft College and Chef Carrie Grube a graduate of Sante Fe Culinary Institute in New Mexico.

“A man walked up to me at church on Sunday and said every time I see you and Phil I get hungry because all I can think about is your good food” stated Barb. She goes on to say this is what is making G.Philip’s grow as we believe “Every Bite Matters!” Call them today 734-281-9622 or at the K of C 313-382-5288 or visit the web site www.GPhilips.com .

Trenton, MI. Long before the State of Michigan goes Smoke Free, local restaurateurs Nick Piunti and Andrea Papp have made their family business smokeless except for the occasional sizzling steak platter. “When the smoking ban was introduced, we were conscious that some of our diners do smoke.” Said owner Andrea Papp. “We have been smoke free for a few weeks now and our regulars are still coming back.” Owner Nick Piunti also commented “Most people realize it is coming and have been dealing with smoking issues at work and other public places for the past few years. We thought we would be pro active on the issue, go cold turkey and see how our regulars respond.”

They have had more good comments than anything else so far. “A customer came in the other day just because we had we had our smoke free banner outside. He never could have a meal here before because of severe allergies.” Said Papp. “Another told us she could actually smell rich aromas she never had experienced here and she had been visiting for over 40 years.” So if it’s been a while since you tasted and smelled some delicious homemade Italian meals make sure to check out the new fresh atmosphere at Sibley Gardens.

Sibley Gardens has been serving downriver generations for over 71 years. Not just for special occasions, Sibley Gardens is for every day good food and superior service.
March 9, 2010— Warren, Mich. – Corp! Magazine readers were asked to name which businesses they considered the “Best” in Michigan. Businesses from throughout the state were nominated and selected based on reader opinions.

Those businesses chosen, including Cygnus Systems, as a “Best of Michigan Business” winner were celebrated at a breakfast program on Tues., Feb. 16, at MSU Management Education Center in Troy. This year’s event was sponsored by Rehmann.

About Cygnus Systems, Inc.

Being empathetic to the customer’s business challenges keeps this firm in touch with what is important to them. Managing this process and the interaction with the team delivers the personalized attention that is often ignored. Cygnus Systems is a full-service IT support company that started 20 years ago assisting local area businesses with incidental response services. Over the years, Cygnus has focused on three main philosophies, helping to leverage IT to improve business, maintaining and integrating networks, as well as incidental support through a help desk. Cygnus has developed a full-service point of view toward technology for small to medium-sized businesses. Today, a company can call Cygnus for anything related to IT work including Web development, IP telephony, support services and even Internet and telecommunications services. Many companies do not have the financial capability to have a full-time IT staff in place, and Cygnus Systems has made it possible to accomplish their goals without having to take on the expense and responsibility traditionally required.

The mission of Corp! Magazine, founded in 1998, is to inform, intrigue and entertain business owners and top level executives by providing business features, news and profiles with a Michigan emphasis.

Riverview MI, February 24, 2010 –VIP Salon and Spa located at 15580 King Road is adding to it’s very attentive list of offerings for its clients. Since the beginning of the year, owner Renee’ Borowy said “We have seen the need for transportation of groups to our salon on special occasions. Now we can give them a style and they can arrive in style with our own King Louie Express limo.”

VIP Salon and Spa has been recognized in national publications consistently for everything from The Best Salon & Spa to The Best Stylist. Borowy also said, “We are always trying to change and add things that our clients might like or have asked for. Our new limo is just another amenity that can help make our client feel more special, pampered and less frazzled.”

The cost to book the King Louie Express is $80 per hour plus gratuity. For clients, depending on the amount of people per booking and services booked, limousine prices will be customized. “One of our top bookings”, says Renee’ Borowy “is our Princess Manicure Parties for our 12 and under crowd. Complete manicure services, little gift bags and nail designs as well as being picked up and dropped off by their very own private limousine, what more could a girl ask for?”
