The Detroit International Auto Show will once again be hosted at the great COBO Center in downtown Detroit from January 9-22, 2011. With car sales on the rise this year’s show will surely be much better than years past. The economy has had some effect on the size of displays and industry participation overall has been down. However this year is going to be one of the better years without question.

The NAIAS 2012 Calendar of Events will feature events like the North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year Awards, as well as Breakfast, Luncheons and the Autoweek Design Forum.

Lexus will unveil a new concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 9, 2012. Designed by Calty, the company’s design studio in Newport Beach, Calif., the concept showcases the new design direction embraced by Lexus.

Ford is expected to debut the new Fusion at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. In a statement Ford Motor Co. said they are going to hit 240,000 sold units of the Fusion making it the best-selling Ford to date.

The revamped pocket-rocket Sonic made by Chevrolet with be sportier and branded the RS. It will debut at the 2012 Auto Show with more style and a suspension that is tighter and lower, and it rolls on five-spoke 17-inch wheels. The RS will be available in late 2012.

Detroit has hosted some sort of auto display for over a century. For quite a few decades of its existence, the show’s focus was strictly regional. An idealistic group of auto dealers within the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) made the event national in 1987 making it the absolutely best auto show in the United States. The North American International Auto Show follows a vision of repeatedly redefining what it means to be the auto industry’s show of shows in Northern American. The Detroit Auto Show 2012 will be even better than the 2011 show enhancing attendees’ experience and over delivering what car buffs expect when attending the Auto Show in Detroit.

The 2012 NAIAS is open to the public from Jan. 14-22. Adult tickets are $12; senior citizens and children 7 to 12 years old are $6; and children 6 and under are free. Press days are Jan. 9 and 10; the industry preview is Jan 11 and 12; and the charity preview, which costs $250 per person, is Jan. 13.

One of the projects that needed to be completed before construction started was the relocation of the Gorman Drain on the property. “Working with Wayne County, the LDFA, the EPA, the MI DEQ and other agencies to redirect the Gorman Drain was a learning experience.” Shelswell indicated, “The LDFA allowed us to re-locate part of the drain on their property and the other portion was re-directed around our facility.” So far the group has completed the water and sanitary sewer system and storm water piping and containment system. On-going work includes the steel building framework being erected, a ring road around the property for delivery trucks and fire department access, early work by ITC/DTE Energy leading to the installation of the power lines that will feed an on-site substation and the construction of that substation.

Inergy is expected to make 1.3 – 1.4 million fuel systems a year in the new facility.  Currently, the parts are made at a plant in Milan. The facility has been designed with the ability for expansion if needed in future years.

“There are many opportunities within this LDFA district,” said Huron Township LDFA Chairman, R.P. Lilly. “A light manufacturer supplier or components operation would make a suitable neighbor for Inergy and they could move in quickly at nearby plant that is up for sale.” The LDFA helps companies through many aspects of new development processes.

Inergy Automotive Systems has a production base in North America, including plants in Adrian Michigan, Anderson South Carolina and Ramos Mexico.  The company primarily supplies Ford, General Motors, Hyundai, Nissan and Chrysler.

They plan to ship their first product in April of 2012, but weather will be a driving factor. “Our people can handle the cold, but the wind and rain is what can halt our construction progress,” stated Vice President of Human Resources, Sandra MacDonald. The company is emphatic about safety and the safety of its crew is number one on this busy construction site. The LDFA plans to continue to bring interesting updates about this construction project on a monthly basis until the project is complete next spring. July 25, 2011-Huron Township, MI—Plastic Omnium Auto Inergy, a division of Compagnie Plastic Omnium, will invest in a new facility in Huron Township and bring 240 jobs to the township.

The ground breaking was held on July 21 and photos may be obtained from the News Herald.

“We are pleased to welcome Inergy to Huron Township,” said Township Supervisor Elke Doom.  “Our Local Development Finance Authority board worked tirelessly to assist Inergy with their new facility in our township.  It’s a great partnership.”

The company explored multiple locations in the state to expand but chose Huron Township and utilized the critical financial resources of the LDFA to finance and construct several key components of the manufacturing facility.

“Location, a cooperative LDFA, and a developed and mature infrastructure were among the reasons Inergy chose Huron Township.  I’m very excited about this new development coming to the beautiful township of Huron.  This represents a trend in attracting quality developments to our community” said R.P. Lilly, chairman of the Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA).

Inergy will make fuel systems in the new facility.  Currently, the parts are made at a plant in Milan.

Inergy was able to create a partnership for their project between the LDFA, Huron Township, and the Wayne County Edge.  I am very excited that Plastic Omnium Auto Inergy, whose parent company has automotive operations around the globe, has selected Huron Township and Wayne county as their location” said Trustee R.P. Lilly, LDFA chair.  “This development reaffirms the strength of southeast Michigan and its role as the center for US automotive investment.  Wayne County and Huron Township also partner in the Aerotropolis authority, itself devoted to economic development in the region” said Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano.
